Some background information on the car:

2015 MK7 GTI. Second owner (bought it at 20k). Car has been APR stage 1 since ownership. Also has a CAI and some suspension and braking goodies. Driven daily 30mi roundtrip mixture of highway and stop and go traffic. It's also the car we use on road trips. Every now and then the car gets a good beating, otherwise, driven normally. No track use.

The Mobil 1 UOA seems to show plenty of TBN left but is a little thinner than I would like (ran it through the winter)
The Castrol 5w-30 (VW Dealer per invoice) seemed to not perform as well as the Mobil 1.

Both fills used a VW OEM filter.
Any thoughts? Current fill on the car is Castrol 5w-40 that I picked up on clearance at AAP.

Mobil1 0w40 viscosity (kv100) dropped. We've seen this happen before with this oil. It never seems to harm anything. Yet I always wonder if the VII in M1 0w40 is really stable enough.
No wear problems here. Great report for the hot rod Golf, which is a top rated fun machine!

That Castrol last UOA did fine, although TBN was less than what M1 Ow40 gave you.

Mobil 1 10w30 has a cst of 10.1. Your 0w40 at 9k miles is still higher viscosity than virgine 10w30. The 5w30 cst is 11. So your 0w40's 10.47 cst is really in the area of a solid, virgin 30 grade. Not too bad.

I'll do a run of 0w-40 Castrol next and compare them to see. Surprised at the shearing of the M1 but then again, I know that some VW specs alot of 30wts for its 502/505

Could be shearing but could also be fuel dilution. Blackstone's methodology for this part of a UOA leaves lots to be desired.

And they both have an HTHS viscosity of barely 3... which is only about 85% of the lower limit specced for these engines. I would say the viscosity loss is bad.

Similar MK6 & 7 engine, similar conditions. This is a customer with an Audi-flavor EA888 CAEB engine in a 2012 Audi A4 with an APR Stage II 93 octane tune. Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40. The earlier 12/16/2016 UOA was using Mobil1 Euro 0W40. The 4/24/2017 UOA experienced a failing coil causing misfiring and fuel dilution which dropped the flash point.

The following is a customers 2006 Audi A3 2.0L EA113 BPY. Stock-as-can-be daily driver. Earlier gen engine, but again very similar with the exception of the overly-extended drain interval.

Interesting how much make up oil was needed, I know my FSI needs 1QT every 2k and its at 160K miles. Curious about running Motul and LM
