Filter was a Wix XP. I have really had good results with magnatec, makes my cars run smooth & quiet on cold starts. This is the first analysis I've had done, the cobalt has an oil life monitor that said the oil had 25% life left when I changed it. I added about 1 total quart of make up oil over the 6400 miles, which was a 50/50 mix of mobil 0w-40 and magnatec 5w-20. Oil pan is a little seepy, not enough to leave a puddle, I think the engine just consumes oil for some reason. Magnatec has 11.2 cst @ 100c, so it didn't lose much viscosity at all. I could probably run this oil for at least 12,800 miles.

My other vehicle is a 2000 escort ZX2 with 150k miles, magnatec is the only stock oil I've tried that quiets the noisy flat-tappet cams on cold starts. I'm running mobil 0w-30 in the zx2 right now, with the rislone ZDDP additive with similar results, much more expensive though. I'll be switching back to magnatec in the future with these results. TBN was great for 6400 miles

What are your driving conditions like? How long was the oil in service for? Good report.

The top-up was a 50/50 mix of 5w20 and 0w40, which should put its average operating temp viscosity inline with a 30 weight, 11 cst. mobil 0w40 has a 100c cst of just 12.9, and the magnatec 5w20 is 9.1 which averages to 11. That is if 100c CST numbers do average like that between oils. Mobil 0w40 is almost a 30 weight though.

I ran it for 8 months, probably 75% highway >18 mile trips and 25%

Good report. As noted above, with the make up you're adding and the use of synthetic, you can easily go several thousand miles (or more) past the OLM. 12,800 may be a stretch - but maybe not - just keep it topped off. Thanks for the post.

I have a Malibu with the same engine. I took a couple of long highway trips [vacations] one summer and went twice as long as the OLM suggested. A total of 14,900 miles one the same oil. The lab report was fine and suggested I could go farther. You have nothing to worry about.
