Back in those days M1 5W-20 had the same film strength as a common 10W-40. This doesn't apply anymore, todays 10W-40 have a higher HTHS as 5W-20, by 30%...

5w20 is spec'd for my 2010 3.8 V6, it also says you can go up to 5w40 "for better protection" or something along those lines as per the manual.The engineers determined 5w20 could do the job so that's what I use, and so far after almost 160,000 miles now - with fantastic UOA's, they seem to be correct.


Well that is nice to have those options. They went with 5w30 and 10w30 only for the GDI. They push 5w30 strongly and really leave the 10w30 as being acceptable if "unavailable in your country".
 
I think your UOAs are very good, but I'm also of the belief that 5w30 would show even better numbers....especially at 157K.
