SOHC 4-valve

A roommate of mine had one - a 1998 Honda Civic EX with the SOHC VTEC. My wife's Civic is a SOHC 4-valve/cylinder.

Still - back in the late 80s I thought that a lot of setups were SOHC 3-valve/cylinder. They'd typically use two intake valves and a single exhaust valve.

VW VR6 is a narrow V with two cams in a single cylinder head, one for all 12 intake valves and one for all 12 exhaust.

Yeah the VR6 is a weird one, it sort of depends on how you count it. You could say it's a DOHC I6 or an SOHC V6. I'm tempted to say it's a DOHC I6 since it only has one head and one cam drives only intake valves while one cam drive only exhaust valves, but it's a corner case for sure.

Many Honda bikes were 3 valve.
