If they've got the approvals, fine. A VOA is useful if you're going to do UOAs down the road.

The only concern I would have is how much would this save you over Canadian Tire's current special on Castrol 0w-40 A3/B4? What about long term availability?

Didn't go with it; wanted to get a discussion going however.

It was $35/5L and I decided on Total Quartz Energy 9000 5W40 that was $39/5L.

Has BMW LL-01 approval which is comforting. Don't know if I'll get a VOA/UOA. Just run it for 9 or 10,000 kms and know I'm fine.

Wanted to go with GC 0w-30 but cheapest I found it was $12/L.

What about the roughly $30 a jug Castrol 0w-40 A3/B4 at Canadian Tire?

$54 here. Checked before I bought. Great option if it's on sale.

It's on special this week. Note, too, that NAPA Canada has a sale on it for at least the next couple months at closer to $40 a jug. While not as good, it's better than $55 to $60. With NAPA Canada, just reserve it online to save yourself the inevitable grief of them complaining they're all out.
