No hernia found! :) Doc referred me to a surgeon.

He didn't listen to my concerns from the beginning. He just did a physical and said I think you have a hernia, that's what's causing the pressure, so all this time I thought it was a small hernia or something. The other problem is I have to wait 30 days to switch doctors.

I don't quite understand why that would be, insurance I guess. I wouldn't call it switching doctors, you're going to see a specialist, a urologist, much like you were going to see a surgeon. You don't have to wait 30 days for that do you? I think 30 days is too long to let this go. You have something serious going on. The way you described your urine is very abnormal. Odd looking urine is bad news and indicates a malfunction somewhere. Malfunctions in the body's waste elimination systems can turn into big trouble real fast.

This. Or bypass the current GP completely if your insurance doesn't require a referral. I'm not a doctor, but given the description of his symptoms, I think it's highly unlikely the pain is muscular in cause, or hernia, and more likely something in his urinary system, possibly an infection in the bladder or kidneys. This is nothing to mess around and delay with. When urine is dark and hazy, something is wrong within that system of the body. It isn't clear if the urine symptoms were made clear to the original GP, but I can't believe the doctor would be incompetent enough to ignore them and focus on a hernia. Oh wait, I can believe it. If it were me, and my insurance or doctors were jamming me on this, I'd be in the ER, where it would get properly diagnosed.

That's what I was thinking initially. I was thinking I was going to walk out of their with a prescription for some anti biotics.

BITOG is no place to be getting medical advice. If you wait 30 days, you're likely to end up in the ER in much worse shape than you are now. If it were me I would do whatever it took to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan ASAP. Not to be harsh, but you've been dealing with this for way too long and have been WAY too passive in advocating for yourself. The insurance company and doctors have their own agendas that are their priority, and they have little to do with your health and ultimate outcome. From my own experience as a patient. You have to take things into your own hands and not let the medical doctor insurance complex make decisions for you.

My appointment for the surgeon is tomorrow. Although I don't know what he will say. I never did mention the dark urine to the doc. What I need to do is put the hammer down on the insurance company and switch doctors.

Dude....you need an Urologist. I know every plan is different. But I don't need a referral for a Urologist.

The surgeon will want to do surgery most likely, which is how they're paid. Kind of like taking a car to trans shop that may not necessarily need a new trans. Could be something simple. Can a family member, friend go with you as your health advocate? Then the doctor has two people to answer to and a witness. Then you can compare notes afterwards.
