I don't usually run this oil in my Saab, but I have a few quarts that I want to run though. I'm concerned that the 10W-30 might be a little thin. What would you mix in, if anything, to thicken it up. I was thinking some Delo 15W-40.

Didn't GM back-spec all their cars to dexos? Does that Saab have an OLM?

I know the ProDS 5w30 is dexos1

It'll be fine. You can run a Saab on 10W-30 just fine. I run 5W-40 Rotella T6 most of the time, but mostly because I have jugs of it and the car seems quite happy on it. I have run xW-30 in the past and it was OK there too. Does it use oil?

What filter? I use the Fram TG3600 (longer) or the Napa Gold equivalent if I don't want to drive to WM.

It takes 4 quarts total. The engine uses about a quart every 5k miles. No OLM.

The last time I worked on a SAAB, it called for 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter, so you shouldn't be worried.

I wouldn't want to use The Delo 15w40 because every turbocharged gasoline engine I ever worked on became varnished if conventional oil was used, even if it was changed every 3000 miles.

Thanks for the info--this is good to know. I am looking at a similar situation on a 2014 VW Jetta 1.8T--I wanted to run a short OCI of about 1 K miles on non-ACEA A3/A4 non-502 spec oil to clean it out some--that's what happens when AZ sells syn at 2 bucks a quart

Delo 15W-40 is a high perentage of Grp III, so I would not worry. As an add to make a bit of viscosity in say a 3:1 ratio (Havoline to Delo) I would not worry too much.

All Saabs since the late 1990's requested synthetic in the OM because the CAT is right next to the pan and they heat soak the oil and coke the oil pick-up. Then they starve for oil and the engine dies. This a big problem if you live in stop and go traffic. Highway driven with more air flow, not a problem.

I run T6 in mine and have a quite a while. I did run Delo400LE when I first got it and before I joined the Saab boards.

I tried Mobil1 and it was not good. Sounded like a can of marbles on cold start. That's when I went to Delo, dead quiet. But have settled on T6 now. Just a hint of cold start rattle, good enough

TG3600 filters fit mine. Sometimes I use Napa Gold. Better cold start noise reduction with Napa Gold/WIX, but more money and not much noise with Fram TG. AC Delco filters were abominable for cold start noise. They drained everything back to the sump ...
