If the manufacturer specifies GL5 for a manual box containing only straight cut and helical cut gears and on top of that an OCI of 12 months, does that say anything negative about the design of the box. Would GL5 be less than optimum for the ball bearing races.

If you are wondering what it is then it's a BMW motorcycle gearbox, very much car like being in line with an engine speed clutch but no synchros,

alot of transmissions will spec gl5...but the 12 mo interval is odd..

in case you are wondering, i have really like the redline series of manual transmission gear lubes.

Owners' manual went missing.
Does a 2013 Matrix 1.8L, 5 speed standard transmission spec GL-5 75W90?

I have 75W90, 80W90 and 80W140 in my stash.

For the matrix I'd 99% say no.

If you need cheapish GL4 NAPA has some in a black gallon jug for $25.

Sulfur in GL5 eats brass synchros.

I think the copper strip test on the Eaton approved GL-5s are 1A.
Nevertheless, I have Eaton Roadranger CD50 in my stash, both in Petro-Can & Chevron.
Would that work instead?
Last, but not least, half a pail of syn-blend THF, I think those lubricants are GL-4 with a KV100C of around 10.
