Is this mower safe to use?

So I started spring maintenance on this mower.
Note: It belongs to family.
First thing I wanted to do was remove the blade for some sharpening.
That went well, but while doing so, I discovered the fissure on the shaft seen in the pictures below.
Now I'm wondering if there's a chance that it will disintegrate completely and allow the blade to wreak havoc before stopping who knows where. Or is it just some benign damage I should not be concerned with? If it's the former, can this part be replaced or should we just throw it away and buy another one?
Thanks for reading!

TL;dr: Shaft cracked. What do I do?

I have to admit that I really don't know jack about lawnmowers, but that looks really scary to me.
I sure wouldn't want to use that mower, so I wouldn't want anybody I cared about using it, either.
Also wouldn't want anybody I cared about being nearby while it's running...

Hard to tell with all the dirt on it.

If that is a cast piece I certainly wouldn't use it in that condition.

Looks like you need a new "blade lock adapter" or "cutter actuator"
depending on the site.
parts diagram

part number 26 in that diagram.

I was wondering why I could only find them in EU or UK parts places..
till I saw your location

SG-2057960 should be the part number but I am not a pro.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Thanks Rand for the part number!
Didn't even know where to start searching.
Gonna buy one, hopefully I can get it somewhere local, it would be great if I could put it together by the weekend.

+1

What would happen if that cast aluminum part were to disintegrate? If that would cause the blade to fall off, then you wouldn't want to use it in that condition.

Replace the mower. Would hate for someone using it or nearby to become another statistic.

Yes, if it pulls off. Remove the bolt first then belt.
