I am changing struts on a Cobalt with sealed bearings.

I have a Silverado with alamite/zerks that takes grease #2.

Do these two vehicles (guessing) use the same type of rubber boots in the suspension joints? I ask because you would think the grease would not degrade the rubber fittings on the truck since that is what you inject into the boots. But on the car what is best for the boots? Clean with soap and wipe dry?

Armor all?

Silicone grease/dielectric?

#2 suspension grease?

The less touching the better?

Thanks!

Boots are not pure rubber anymore and haven't been for decades, they are a synthetic rubber mix. Just wipe them off, its more than good enough.

Dirt has nothing to do with the longevity of boots of any kind on cars.

Longevity of those polymers is completely dependent on design parameters and the nature/quality of the material.

Then go ahead and wipe away. It will make you happy and the boots will look prettier.
