I'm experiencing this first-hand on a car that has no leaks, but consumes a little oil. This was true even with multiple OCI's of PUP and M1HM. However, with PPHM, consumption continues to decrease. (All mentioned are 5w30's.)
So, it's unusual that PPHM is thinner than its regular PP counterpart.
Is it likely that the PPHM version using better base than the regular PP??

1quart per 6k reduced to less than 1/2 qt per 6k. Not huge numbers, but when you put on miles like we do it's very evident.

Either way, I'm curious how the thinner version obtains the "less burn off"

I changed from PHM 10w40 conventional to PPHM 5w30 at 273k in my Fj60 and I have experienced 30% less burn off in the first 2k miles.

So far so good and I'm interested to see how this goes throughout the OCI. I anticipate it to increase as the OCI progresses but hopefully it surprises me.

Well it's a high mileage oil so the difference is probably in the additive package. They do make the oil specifically for this reason according to marketing, so it just sounds like it's doing its job as intended.

What does thinner mean? Less viscous?
