Choices for this tire are slim:

Nexen N7000
Kumho Ectsa

Nexens are cheaper. Any opinions?

Yes, but they're smaller.

The Nexens ( 215 50 16 ) will cost me about $400.

Tirerack shows some Dunlops available in that size. Since the pickings are so slim, I agree with the strategy of changing size slightly.

Smaller? They're actually 0.4" taller.

Sorry.

How about Firestone Firehawk GTA 02? These are available for about the same price as the Nexens.

I just ordered some Pirelli P7 'All season Plus' tires in the 205/55/16" size, $100 shipped on fleabay. Compare reviews at tire rack.
