the Right Turn Signal on Mom's 2009 Taurus went out. Went to the Store, looked in the Sylvania Catalog, it says it takes a 4157.

go to replace them, the bulbs in the car, which look to be the factory originals(the nuts holding the housings in still had the factory sealer spooge around them) were Sylvania 3157's.

they seem to work as expected... so, BITOG Lighting Gurus... what's the difference between them?

Lifted this from a different forum. The info was provided by a Sylvania rep.

sooo 1.6W more consumption on the Major Filament.
which would be the...stop/turn filament?(burns brighter), or the tail light filament?

should i worry about shorter life, Hotter Burning, plug melting? etc?

Minor (low watts) is tail lights.

Major (High wattage) is brake/turn
