To have it charge the fastest using my Anker 6 port 60W USB charger should the charger end of the charging cable be USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 or USB A, what about the 56k resistor I read mentioned for some cables.

you buy a new charger.
That one can only do 2.4amps per connection.

Pretty much any good usb A to C cable will work.
most of the non-compliant ones were gone at least 6 months ago.

The nexus 5x will charge at 3amps if available.

this explains too more understandable.. less technical.

if you just want to charge a 2.4amps on your current charger just about any cable will do
such as

I have a 2 charging cables for mine - the one that came with the package and a Belkin. The one I got from Belkin is a 3.1, and most of the time, be it in car or a power outlet, it will display "Charging Rapidly". At some other random times, it just says "Charging". Never did figure that out.

This Nathan K. on Google+ does some USB-C testing.

He's a little over-the-top in my opinion on it, but you can learn a lot.

Higher voltage? the nexus 5x doesnt have QC so it will go up to 5v 3amp unless I'm missing something?

Usually after 70% battery, many phones will not 'charge rapidly' which is usually > 1amp. It should still say 'charging', which is 1amp. There are times where over 70% it will 'charge rapidly' and that's often when the battery internals are still cool/safe enough to continue doing so.

As for charging in general, you do need decent cables and a decent charger. With USB-C chargers buy original OEM or Anker/Aukey. Avoid any other cheap ones for your own good. Avoid ones that don't have a UL rating (or the European equivalent) on it. Decent cables have become easier to find the past year. Again the Anker/Aukey/Amazon Basics are great off Amazon, so is Monoprice and even Best Buy's Dynex. Actually I recommend the Dynex version of Apple's lightning cables, but that's off topic.

While phones do slow down charging when warm or near fully charged.

In this case the nexus 5x will say
Charging rapidly when connected to a 3amp charger
charging when connected to a 1-2.4amp charger
charging slowly when connected to a low power source such as a .5amp usb 2.0 port.

It will do this at 20% charge or 99% charge. It has to do with the capability of the charger not the actual charging amperage.. because we all know my phone at 99% isnt charging at 3amps but it will say charging rapidly.. when plugged in at 99%
