Wow, no power brakes on that baby?!

Nope not yet. We are likely going to do a disk brake kit this summer and the kit comes with the booster. Not sure we will be able to run power brakes yet anyway. This cam only pulls 10" of vacuum at an idle. Might be able to make it work with a vacuum canister like I have to run on my camaro.

Stock 1987 Ford 302 Shortblock (never been cleaned up).
120,000Km on it now (60,000 miles).
This is this engines 3rd home. Engine was purchased as a low mileage short for use in the '85 GT I've posted of on here. Engine was pulled from that car when the owner decided to sell it and then we swapped it into the '87 GT T-top he purchased.

Oils run since we picked it up have been Duron-E 0w40, Duron 5w40, and the last number of OCI's have been Mobil 1 0w40.

Friend leaves Sunnyvale and gets to Livermore. Engine doesn't want to idle. Friend fiddles with distributor timing and gets it to run. Continues on to Stockton. Replaces timing chain at friend's house. Drives back to Sunnyvale. Tells me that it runs fine but has no power climbing Altamont Pass, Pidgeon Pass and Mission Grade.

Of course it doesn't have any power. It's running on two cylinders. The oil pressure was low too.

someone did alot of port work to those heads. i bet it ran like a champ!

cant tell from the pick but they should be 292 castings if they are correct. bad news is those are not the right lifters for the DZ 302. the originals were larger on the bottom like a mushroom to increase max lift time. they actually had to be put in from the bottom. but like you said, its got the gm performance off road special in it now anyway. bet it loved the rpms!

I'm surprised this thread is still going.

This engine is not a DZ 302. It's an MO 302 and those solid lifters are original to the engine along with the cam. I think the heads were ported in the late 70's.

4/26/2014 169,631 Penz Plat 0w20 Wix 3,136

*3k mile OCI was by accident, coulda sworn it was due.
Some LC 20 was used since I bought it also, as it looked quite varnished through the fill hole when I bought it. Who knows what it looked like before and if the Penz Syn has been cleaning or not.

Cross posted from my thread.

This is the back bank on my 1MZ-FE at 299,000 miles, a steady diet of M1 since new with an average OCI of 5000 miles. An engine that is rough on oil.

And this is the front bank at 232,000 miles:

86k miles of neglected maintenance in fleet use plus 13k miles of short (1k-2k miles were turning the oil very black) OCIs with top shelf synthetics. 99k at the time of picture. 2006 Pontiac Vibe AWD. Was a beast in snow and slow turtle on any other pavement. Glad I sold it.

Looks very well! Was that after manual clean up or is that a normal clean state of the engine?
