Hi,my first post on here.I have been looking at the above oil for use in a 32 year old Ford Escort. The spec says it is a synthetic and can be used for Petrol and diesel Engines,so i was thinking that it might be a good oil to use to clean up older Engines slowly? would it be better at cleaning compared to a Semi 10w40 such as Petronas Syntium 800 EU?

I trust Fuchs lubricants entirely. I I wasn't such a Redline fanboy I'd be using Fuchs in every application they produce an item for.

Petrol and diesel should be rated A3B3 or A3B4 - high starting TBN and c. 3.5 hths will do all the protection and extended drain you need it to do

But on balance, just about anything ACEA or API should do enough cleaning over repeated short OCIs.

Your choice.

Thanks Olas.I will probably just run the Petronas with short OCIs as i can get it easier and cheaper.

But then you can get tripleQX even cheaper on CP4less or Euro's.

Or pour a cup full of kerosene into the fill hole, idle for 3 or 4 minutes then drain the stinky chunky sludge out a lot quicker than short OCIs ever will...

I had looked at the triple QX oil,but can't find any data sheets on it,but if it's the same spec as the Petronas then it's worth looking at.So if i have this correct,i could pour in about 100ml of UK Paraffin and idle for a few mins before draining the oil?

The talk on the forums is that TQX is rebadged Shell helix but AFAIK it's not been confirmed. TBH with the amount of it they sell we'd know by now if it was causing problems - I use it in all my customers cars when they ask for cheap or mention a budget and it has all the necessary approvals.

And you're dead right on the paraffin idea, if you go to halfords and pick up any bottle of engine oil flush it will list the main ingredient as kerosene. Great for moving soft gooey sludge&carbon
