I was looking for a new oil for my vehicles.

It came to my attention that the specs on paper for these two oils are similar. But the price for Veedol is almost 50% less (Veedol is now an Indian brand) while Mobil1 is still imported.

Veedol Syntron Euro Spec 5w-40
(SN/CF, A3/B4, MB 229.3/229.5, RN 0700/0710, GM- LL-025/A-B, BMW LL01, Porsche A40, VW 502.00 / 505.00, PAS B71 2296 )
TBN : 10
Flash POint: 210
Viscosity Index : 185
@100 : 13.5
@40 : 75

Mobil 1 0w-40
(API SN/CF, A3/B4, MB 229.3/229.5, BMW LL01, VW 502.00/505.00, Porsche A40)
TBN: 11.8
Flash point : 230
Viscosity Index : 185
@100: 13.5
@40: 75

There is a difference in the base number. I assume HTHS will be above 3.5 for both. Is it worth going for Veedol over Mobil1 for 50% price difference? I have tried their mineral and semi oils with satisfaction (Blue Blood and Powertron and Take OFF 4t oils).

What other details should we look at to make sure of the oils quality?

Yes, contacting BMW and/or Mercedes to confirm the oil's approvals would be prudent. If it meets BMW LL-01 or Mercedes 229.5, I'd say use it.

If they're both approved, it comes down to the difference in cost and wether or not that difference in cost justifies e difference in TBN and flashpoint.

Veedol has lots of oils approved by BMW and Mercedez-Benz. Euro Spec syntron 5w-40 is not one of them. But the PDS mentions that it meets the requirements.

Mobil1 0w-40 also says that it meets the requirements for vw 503.01, GM-LL-A-025, FIAT 9.55535 and API CF.

Now if Veedol is a bad oil without MB and BMW certifications, Is Mobil a bad oil without GM, VW, FIAT and API CF certifications?

I am not voting for Veedol but instead trying to understand the dark world of Lubricants.

No one can have an official approval of VW 503.01 or API CF, because they are obsolete specifications.

That's why Mobil correctly states that "According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 0W-40 is of the following quality": API CF, VW 503.01, etc. So, they think that if this oil could be officially tested against these specifications, the oil would pass the tests. But VW don't give approvals for the obsolete VW 503.01 specification anymore.

Now, MB 229.3 and 229.5 are not obsolete specifications, and that's why Mobil states that "Mobil 1 0W-40 has the following builder approvals": MB-Approval 229.3, MB-Approval 229.5, etc. So, Mobil 1 0W-40 is truly tested against these specifications and is officially approved.

For the Veedol oils:
- Veedol Powertron Plus 5W-40 has official MB-Approval 229.3.
- Veedol Powertron Extra 5W-40 has official MB-Approval 229.5.
- Other Veedol oils do not have official MB-Approval 229.3 or MB-Approval 229.5, and that’s it.

So, if you want to use Veedol Syntron Euro Spec 5w-40 in your car, then go ahead. But realize, that it do not have any official MB approvals. Veedol as the manufacturer only "thinks" that the Euro spec oil is that good. Is it then? Nobody knows, as it has not been officially approved. Might be good oil, or might be junk. Do you take their word for it?
