Hi,

I'd like to get some opinions regarding Schaeffer 8008 Advanced European Mid Saps 5w-30 compared to VW's 507.00 specs. Here are specs for the 8008, M1 ESP 5w30, and Liqui Moly Top Tech 4200 5w-30 respectively.

VI: 165/164/173
Flash: 224/254/232
Pour: -39/-45/-42
SA%: .8/.6/ TBN: 7.8/???/6.5
Phos: 744-843/800/???
Zinc: 781-971/900/???
Noack%: 10/???/???

The Schaffer 8008 is advertised as being dexos-2 compliant and suitable for 504.00/507.00 applications although it does not appear to have mfg approval.

It appears the .8 SA content is the same as the 4200's SA, so does that mean that it is DPF friendly? The property that really stands out to me is the TBN of 7.8, as I do 10,000 - 12,000 mile oci's.

I own a 2015 Passat Tdi and am currently running the Top Tech 4200.

Don't know why this was moved to the gasoline section since it's a diesel oil but oh well...

This was my "go to" oil for my 2016 Jeep Ecodiesel until FCA changed the spec for the 2016 models to 5w40 HDEO. You should have no trouble for your OCI length if you test it at 5-6k miles. Let the lab tell you the health of your oil. FWIW, Schaeffer's does testing for free as long as you don't need/want the TBN measured and then, I think they only charge $1-$2 dollars to add TBN to the test.

Schaeffer charges $8 per kit and does not include TBN, or at least the ones I get through the salesman do. It does provide oxidation and nitration which is important for diesels and in my experience is good enough and TBN isn't really needed.

I use their engine oils, greases, and fuel additives and haven't had a single problem and run 12k oil changes on my gas pickup on the Supreme 9000 and would expect the 8008 to perform excellent as well.

Thanks for the replies. I had posted this in the heavy duty diesel oil forum and has asked it be moved to light duty. I'll ask the mod to move it again.

I was not aware that Schaffer provided an oil analysis but I'll look in to that. It would be very interesting to see a 10,000 analysis on a 2.0 Tdi.

Right now, I've opted for the "fix" as I'm a plaintiff in the infamous dieselgate case. So at this point I'm not really concerned about a 507 that's on VW's approval list. As long as the sulfate ash content is <=.8% I think the dpf will be happy. As I stated earlier it is the nice tbn of 7.8 that caught my eye. Someone else posted on another thread that a lower flash point (224c on the Schaffer) may also be easier in the dfp. This I have no idea if true, but it is a little lower than the others.
