I've had 20+ years service out of a 6v/12v 2-6 amp $29 Schumacher, almost that from a Sears (looks to be built by Schumacher, but I'm not sure) that also has the 6v/12v feature but also has switch positions for regular/maintenance-free/10 amp "Quick" charges.

Also two Battery Tender Jr.'s which I move from bike to bike (or car to car) when they are not being ridden regularly: I'm a firm believer in having both types if you have multiple vehicles.

I'm not too sure about 50 amp charges: certainly not while hooked up in a vehicle! Can you smell "fried computer"?

Cheers!

p.s.If you have a chance to see a used one hooked up, these are not bad buys at a garage sale (no pun intended!).

I'll throw in my vote for Schumacher too. Other than small maintainers, I've owned only 2 battery chargers since the mid 70s' Both of them were Schumachers. Pretty good life for something we've abused so consistently.

I have a Deltran battery tender and it works as advertised. Helps keep the battery ready to go.
