Would you use 4 1/2 year old Mobil 1 ?

I change the oil in my F-150 once a year now. I put less than 6k a year on it.
I've got 10 Qts of Mobil 1 5W-20 that has a maufacture date of July 15, 2012.

That's 4 1/2 years old, when I change it out it will be 5 1/2 years old. I hate to waste the Mobil 1, Mobil says it has a shelf life of 5 years.

Am I being to Anal ? Would you use the oil ?

I did a UOA on my sunday driver with 10 year old oil that had 4,000 miles on it, turns out test said it was like 50% still good, TBN of 4.2 !! I was surprised!

4.5 years eh? I bet dinosaurs bottled it at the plant.

First, I'd shake it up hard. Then I'd use it.

Personally, no I wouldn't. If you choose do do so, make sure to shake it up thoroughly before use.

The reason they throw out that 5 year date is because that's about how often the ratings on the oil changes. But if it meets the spec for the particular car, then go ahead and use it.

The 4 1/2 year old bottle contains 6 million year old oil. I'd be more concerned about the degrading plastic leaching into the oil if I was you.
