I suspect though given the age of the W123 series that most 10w40 or 15w40 oils would be quite suitable. Penrite's oils are typically marketed as containing higher levels of the zinc additive, and they're not too pricey either.
Yes what B320i says.
You can get Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 semi-synthetic everywhere in Oz.
It's rated API SN/CF, ACEA A3/B4,
MB 229.3, VW 502/505, RN 0700 / 0710.
For 5L it's $32 at Kmart, $37 at SuperCheapAuto, as everyday prices. But keep an eye on the sales (SCA, Repco, AutoBarn) and I have picked it up at $20 for 5L.
You can also get Penrite Vantage 10W-40 semi-synthetic.
It's rated SN/CF, A3/B4,
MB 229.1, VW 502/505, RN0700
It has a very high zinc content of 1220 ppm ( 0.122 %).
There was a recent Penrite sale at Repco and the Vantage 10W-40 was half price ($25 for 6L) but that sale has now ended.

If you need oil now and you can't find a sale, then HX7 at Kmart, otherwise watch the sales and stock up when it's half price.
