When I got the HTHS off Penrite, it was clearly a "16"...

What was the HTHS Shannow ?

OK fair enough, I didn't look closely at the specs, and just took it at face value (the label).
It makes 20 grade according to the 1999 J300, but the revised 2009 J300 I have puts it as a 16 grade. Just as you say.

To be honest, I would use the Penrite 10-Tenths Racing 5W-30
KV100 = 10.0 cSt and HTHS = 3.34 cP
That's clearly in 30 grade territory.

That HTHS is quite nice, most ILSAC grades are 3.0 +/- 0.1, while HDEO or Euro grade A3/B4 or C3 oils in 30 grade are typically 3.5 to 3.6 cP. So this value of 3.34 nicely sits in the middle.

I should give it a run some day.

Thanks Mate.

Quote:
was always on the thin side of 20, but with the new J300 6.7 cst puts it in the 16 category.

Heard today that the HTHS of the racing 20 is (was August 2013) 2.5, which makes it a 16 as well.

For info, the
5W30 HTHS is/was 3.34
10W40 HTHS is/was 4.49
