I just picked up a Savage with 6,000 miles and getting acquainted with it.

I've put about 21,000Km on my 2013 SYM Wolf Classic 150 and wanted something a little bigger.

I'm still a proud member of the Singles Club ...

Very nice! Got any pics? I was looking hard at those S40/LS650s before I ended up with a Vulcan 500. I still think about them, I really like that they were thumpers for simplicity's sake.

If you feel like doing some customizing on it, this place sells DIY kits for the S40

They were featured on Jay Leno's Garage where they brought a couple cafe racer S40 bikes

Also, there is a forum for those bikes, I suggest you look it up. I know there is a cam chain tensioner mod they highly recommend as the OEM one can give some problems.

Those are really pretty cool. I've watched a lot of Jay's videos, but I have never seen that one. A buddy of mine who is the GM at a local bike Dealer, has a Savage that was traded in and has been collecting dust. I might give him a call and see what he wants for it.

I have done test rides on a few at different times; when I was down to 1 scooter, a Genuine Buddy 125, the S40 felt like an upgrade; after having my current Honda Shadow I considered a 'downsize' and rode another one...that S40 felt 'unrefined' compared to the Honda's v-twin; I double dipped for nearly a year and had the S40's little brother, a GZ250 and the difference between the GZ and the Shadow was enormous; since I have 2+ years left on my loan getting a different bike is not feasible yet I would gladly approach an S40 without hesitation; I like thumpers...broke into motorcycles on a low mileage 2008 Buell Blast; the autochoke on my Buell was a cantankerous problem...even had the settings updated twice! next step if I kept it was to order a new autochoke but I found a nice 2009 Yamaha V-Star 650 and traded the Buell; eventually I will have to downsize since moving the Honda around the backyard is getting difficult with seversl overuse injuries plaguing me...I hope the S40 is available in 2-3 years when I have my bike paid off!
