I would appreciate some recommendations on a good chain lubricant. My concerns are corrosion protection and no fly off.

I've found PJ1 blue to be good on "O" ring chains. There are lots of options out there, but I used it in my shop for years with the best success.

YMMV

This will likely get several responses, kind of like what oil should I run. Range will be from WD40 to 90W gear oil.

My self, I have been using Bel-Ray Super Clean for about 10 years, on and off road.

I'll typically clean the chain with mineral spirits, Blow it off, go for a short ride, apply the lube, run the chain through a rag to remove any excess, ride.

My 10 riding season FZ1 chain has almost 21K on it and looks like new. I'm kinda a clean freak so I wont tolerate rust or fling off.

Like I said, I'm sure others will have their preferred regiment and products.

I use S100 white and have done for almost 20 years, nothing compares to this stuff absolutely nothing. It doesn't fly off or make a mess and the chain wear is almost nothing. You will have to look around and probably buy it froma German or UK seller and pay the shipping but i guarantee you its worth it, buy 2-3 cans.

Dupont Teflon Chain Saver.

I am quite happy with it so far and the price is great and can be found at most walmarts :]

Some do, but not all of them. Several are designed specifically to not do that.

Over the years I've narrowed down to (strictly o-ring chains):

  • WD-40 for cleaning chains (stops here on my dirt bike chains which get cleaned very frequently)
  • DuPont Multi-Purpose Lube w/Teflon for protection on road bikes only (dry film)

I don't want to mess around with too much, greasy or gunky lube.... I'd rather have a clean, lightly oiled chain that'll last a ~10-15k (road) and just replace it when needed. Versus cleaning/lubing it like crazy to extend the life another few thousand miles.

Over the years I've tried pretty much every specific chain lube, and alternatives like gear oil, (as lots of bike manufacturers recommend). To date, the chain lube I like best is the Pro Honda HP chain lube with Moly.

I should add that I have no affiliation with the linked company, it is just an example of the product.

You do know that the Dupont Multi Purpose was reformulated and is no longer a dry lube? It thickens, but remains wet. I used to use it until the reformulation when I switched over to the chain saver stuff. I have been trying the WD40 Specialist dry lube, and so far I actually like it in terms of no fling off. Doesn't last quite as long, but I like not cleaning my rims all the time.

They say "no fling", but how does it do in real use?

I've used the Maxima Chain Wax forever and have always liked how it performed. Doesn't fling, and usually lasts about 300~400 miles (depending on application and riding style) before the rollers start to loose their coating of lube. The newer Maxima Chain Wax seems even better today then it was 15 years ago.

I always apply it to a hot chain, and let it dry. I've never seen any fling from it. I'm currently running a DID 530ZVM-X chain and Sunstar sprockets on my big-bore 'Busa. So far this combination along with the Pro Honda HP chain lube with moly, has shown the most longevity in my application.

I'm also using it on my modified S1000RR's chain with good results. Although that is a much less stressful application (lighter bike and much less power).

Seems to dry up and it doesn't fling, so I'm happy. Lke HHS-2000, maybe not "dry" but it thickens up to a thin film.

I thought Maxima Wax was a good idea at first... IME it just builds a waxy brown coating on the outside and its more difficult to clean off. Not a fan. Honestly, I see guys do no maintenance and their chains last just fine, shorter yes, but no hassles. I just find a middle ground between none - overkill.
