OK, so it is a gold mine of information on bearings. When I read "Bearing Gold Mine, NASA paper..." I thought they had discovered a gold mine on Mars or something.

Me too. In mining circles, I believe "Bearing" is a synonym for "Paydirt"

I made it through the intro and the table of contents, then the beginnings of Hydrodynamic theory. This reference should be added to OIL U "for further understanding"
