If the OEM belt isn't lasting, there is another problem.

Yep.

The lowest bidder- but to the OEM's specifications. For instance, you can purchase Bando's aftermarket line of belts for 1/3 to 1/2 of the price of the dealer belt. But the Bando aftermarket belt will not have the woven/fabric layer on the smooth side of the belt and will stretch a lot more than the OE belt.

Do both of them work? Yes. Will one last longer? Not sure....but one looks like a better made part.

So the belt that comes from the factory is NEVER the same belt you can buy somewhere else, and ALWAYS inferior?

I know you didn't say that exactly. But it's always insinuated here.

If you know that isn't what he said then why are you asking?

He's saying (and it can be correct depending on the application) that an OEM belt made by Bando is not always the same as the aftermarket Bando belt purchased at a parts store. If you go to the dealer and buy an OEM belt then it is the same.

Which model of car? My 1MZ-FE Sienna has no separate tensioner for either of the accessory belts. If you mean the timing belt, then the Koyo tensioner (and idler) is of high quality and has always lasted at least as long as the belt.

What I stated was clear.

I realize you have a problem with anyone pointing out that some parts (including belts) available at a parts store may not be the same as an OEM part even though the manufacturer is the same. I've seen other posts of yours on this subject.

Critic did not say they are "NEVER" the same nor did he say they are "ALWAYS inferior" and you noted in your post that you knew what he said.

What Critic said was also clear and did not need clarification.

These days with the proliferation of online OEM dealers for parts, I find little reason to purchase aftermarket. The prices are similar and you end up with a part that is identical to the original. My local Toyota dealer gives a discount similar to other online dealers if you email them instead of walking in, and there's no shipping fee.

Are you an instigator? I don't have a "problem" with that. I just don't want to assume that the OEM part is in fact better than what can be had else where.

I'm the instigator? You're the one who questioned Critic's post with words he did not use nor mean (and admitted it wasn't his intent).

I recently did a timing belt/water pump/belt job on my 1mzfe. I have put about 6k miles on it since with no problems. I used Gatorbacks for both the PS and AC belts on it. I have more miles on the Gatorbacks that I put on my other car. They are fine. Bando is the OEM supplier for my 1mzfe and I'd also use that with confidence.
