Hello all,

I live in Germany and I've a 2013 BMW F10 535i.
The manufacturer recommends to change every 30000km but I change my oil every 10000km myself and I go to dealer to do oil change every 30000km to keep the car book updated.

So, I've a question about the oil choice.
I hesitate between 3 brands :
- Valvoline SynPower MST LL04
- Castrol Edge FST Titanium LL04
- OEM BMW LL04

And I hesitate between 2 viscosities :
- 5w30
- 5w40

Which one will give me the better protection ?

What about the "myth" of the super protection of the new Castrol Titanium formula which provides 43% more protection than the older Castrol Edge ?

Thanks a lot !

+1 Castrol Edge ow-40 would be awesome for your application

It has a good wear protection ?
Because on PDS the flashpoint is juste 200°C...
Even the Fuch 5w30 GT1 Titan XTL which I used in my previous car has a flashpoint of 230°C

Low-sulfer gasoline, baby!

I would still recommend the full-SAPS LL01 for better protection. Since you have no DPF to worry about, no need for LL04.

It's compatible with TWC ?
In Germany all Castrol Edge Titanium are LL04.

And about the Titanium technology, it's very efficient ?

The Fuchs 5w30 GT1 XTL has a very good results !

It's difficult to make a choice...

You advise me to buy Castrol 0w40 L01 ? And no the LL04?

LL98 is not sufficient for even 10,000km changes. Part of LL01 and LL04 is VANOS performance.

That is not correct. The LL-98 standard came about with the original extended intervals; up to 15K miles.

What you are thinking of is "BMW Special Oils," predating LL98 by 2-3 years, which are only suitable up to 15,000km (9,320 miles) intervals.

Bear in mind BMW engines gradually received VANOS in the 1990s, well before any of these approval oils came into practice.

I think the interval would be fine on the LL04 oils presumably recommended by BMW. The O.P. can choose to run LL01 oils, which might be more suitable for long intervals - at their own risk.

Same interval in Canada on my 2008 335i. When the oil change countdown timer is reset, it resets to an OCI of 32,000 kms. LL01 is recommended for me by BMW.

From my side I change oil Every 10000km no matter if using LL01 Or LLO4.

You've said the oils with lot of sulfated ashes provide more protection?

Yes. However, if you're stuck on the 10,000km OCI, you can use any LL01 or LL04 oil without worry. My choice would still be the Castrol.

And what do you think about Fuchs oils ? The GT1 Titan XTL Pro C3 5w30 has a flashpoint of 230°C, it's very impressive for a 5w30 oil.
It's aproval for : BMW LL04, Porsche C30, VW 50700

I'm still hesitating between those brands :

- Valvoline SynPower MST 5w40 -- flash point: 240°C NOACK: 8,8% -- price for 7 liters 60€

- Fuchs Titan XTL GT1 5w40 -- flash point: 236°C NOACK: 10,1% -- price for 7 liters 50€

- BMW OEM TwinPower Turbo 0w30 -- flash point: 242°C NOACK: 8,5% -- price for 7 liters 80€

what do you think about Valvoline oils quality ? Are they trusted ?

Valvoline is definitely trusted however, I would just go with the cheapest option with the Fuchs. It meets your needs and is the least expensive, that is how I decide every time.
