RevelationLion,I run that little Civic engine pretty hard, I expect to come up through the hood one day, what with 424,000 miles on it!

I knew it

Miles at oil change-426,453
Miles on oil-8,012
Amsoil AZO 0W-30 oil
Amsoil EAo 36 oil filter
Twin Filtermag CT-3.2 magnetic oil filters
Golden Eagle magnetic drain plug
5 ounces Liqumoly
32 ozs makeup oil added

Blackstone Labs;
Harry: We ran a PC on the old machine, and it came back at 16/15/12
The TBN was steady at 2.7, as you might expect after a similar oil change interval. Wear metals haven't changed much either, so your Honda appears to be wearing okay at an impressive 426,453 miles. Fuel was at just a trace, and silicon was low again. If you'd like, we think 10,000 miles would be okay for the next run, or stick with this interval if it works for you. Nice report!

Harry, I have read the whole post from page 1. You are my hero. I was wondering - could you upload some pics of your, now historic and heroic, and well documented vehicle? I just gotta see it... Or maybe you can message them to me, that would be greatly appreciated!

21 ounces make up oil

Blackstone Labs; Harry; Unfortunately, we didn't see your request for a particle count until it was too late, and we'd already run the flashpoint test. That test takes basically "the rest" of the oil, after all the other tests are done. If you have some of this oil on hand, we'd be happy to run the particle count only on it (no charge), if you can send us a little more. Sorry about that. Wear metals look good though, and fuel measured at a still acceptable 1.3% of the sample. The TBN was fine at 2.5. This is a good report, from what we're able to see. No new concerns here!

Harry,

Owe you an apology - thought this was some clapped-out beater you were just refusing to replace!

That engine bay is sweet - can we see the rest of the car?

I understand the over-maintenance my friend!

Thank you Harry! Definitely a vehicle that is taken care of all around. My relatives have a 1999 Civic LX with under 100k miles, and it looks like it belongs at the junk yard with paint flaking off and deep dents. Yours on the other hand belongs at the showroom floor. If you ever reach a million miles - contact Honda USA, they should give you a brand new civic for free and take yours to the museum!!!

Vlad, A million miles?! I should live so long

It just goes to show you, if you take better care of a car than is necessary, it will run and look new for as long as you care to own it.
How many '57 chevies do you see running around? I see plenty and they all look better than brand new.

x3.

Looks great and there isn't another car in the same category that is sold today that I would rather have over the simplicity of late 80s/early 90s Japanese vehicles.

Thanks jayg, it's simplicity and ease of maintenance is one of the reasons i'm hanging on so tight. It is very reliable and gets over 40 mpg on the highway. You can still get parts 24 years later!

Blackstone Labe; Harry thanks for the note about the timing belt change and valve adjustment. salicon is a typical find after the hood has been opened for repairs, so we're not too concerned about the 26 ppm that showed uphere. I
