I have a 2004 silverado with the 5.3 v8. It has 148k miles and I'm wondering what oil would be good/best for this vehicle. I don't tow anything and if I ever did I doubt it would beanything big. I live in upstate NY so winter can get into the negatives. What would you recommend? Gm specs 7500 miles for an oil change so I'll be sticking to that. What would you recommend?

Well Ramblejam it is 2 months later and closer to winter.
Decisions about oil can be so hard to make. And filters? Absolutely harder.
You know what I mean?

Thank God down here in the deep south we just dump in some good oil, any old oil will do, and put her in the garage at night and she fires right up in the morning. No worries.

Old audi here is worried about the winter.

Just tell him to put in good old Mobil 1 0w30 and sleep well. That is about as good as it gets.

Wait for it Ramblejam. He will be back in a month or so

I can tell you, of the oils I've tried in the past, M1 0-30 'masks' the piston slap nicely. I know those who have tried the TDT 5/40 have had good luck.
