In other words, not affiliated with a dealership or major chain.

They're all over the place. :]
 
Indy is just slang for independent. They are all over.

One trick I always did is go to the local car shows and ask the gearheads. They'll know where a good one is...

This is quite telling. I actually watched my boss as a youngster defraud a woman out of a ton of money. When I said something I was released immediately.

If a shop is courteous and professional with a Woman she must be cautious still, as it can be a pricing scam. My MIL has a very professional acting Nissan dealer that tried talking her into a ton of unneeded service on her 350Z. Luckily she called me when it seemed "a little high...
