Anyone getting new civic type r or had one?

Not a chance if its 40k+. I'm just not on the same level as some honda fanatics when it comes to paying huge money for a civic. I'd probably rather have a Golf R or a Focus RS, or even just a V8 camaro.

The turbo ones? Gonna be interesting to see what aftermarket tuning outfits can do with them. I personally think they're kinda ugly

No and no.

Meh.
I have a lot better things to do with my money than spend it on a 'fast' car. Type R, M3, etc.

Hey, you asked.

Hey, you asked.

Less is more in a vehicle as far as I am concerned. My new vehicle has no cruise, no power windows, no moonroof, no power mirrors. no automatic. Just what I wanted.

How does it compare to Focus RS? That is yet another $40K+ car. I have a feeling that both of thse cars will sell out their allocated quota. These are no longer mere cars but more like limited availability items.

Not only that, but $40K isn't exactly a huge amount of money to pay for a new car either.

In 2016, average new car price is somewhere around $34K. By comparison, it was about half that 20 years ago. So, seeing the $40K figure on a door sticker isn't all that uncommon these days, even on non-luxury cars, but it still may be shocking to some.

The Focus RS, Golf R, and the Civic Type R are all about appeasing their hard-est core customer base, or internet fanboys with the cash. I respect the Golf R's gearbox (but little else) and I like the RS on a personal level, but even I question their purpose beyond being a "halo car" for teenagers.

As a performance car... they will be trounced by nearly everything else in their price range and a fair amount of car below it. Heck, my $23K "base" Hyundai will walk away from the Type R depending on how it is geared. 5.0 Stangs will still laugh at the v-tech weak-sauce.

In comparison, at least the STI/Evos could justify their cost because they used to be faster than some of the bigger boys and gave you some rally mechanicals.

If I had 40K to drop on a "civic" I would find a hard-sell BMW M235i or M240i stick and call it a day.

You only live once, gotta get your dream car before you die...

Maybe once we've retired early and I found some extra money that I didn't want. Otherwise, I'd rather retire early - I dream of that way more than any vehicle.

My first new car was like that, a 1994 Civic DX coupe. In addition to not having any of those things above it didn't have wheel covers, power steering, radio, speakers, AC, clock. I did add the clock, radio, speakers, mudguards, AC, floor mats, wheel covers, chrome exhaust finisher which were all Honda accessories. Neat little car. There were only two trim levels, the DX and EX.

..plenty customers for a Honda product like this, especially as the economy expands and the younger men have cash.

Not sure what all the hubbub is about the $40k price tag. There have been specialized versions (remember homologated race cars like the original E30 M3?) for a long time. Heck the Brits were lucky to have the really good Ford Escort Cosworth RS while we had the "sporty" Ford Escort GT. Now we do actually have something closer, the Ford Focus RS. The Subaru Impreza WRX / Mitsubishi Lancer Evo are also some recent econoboxes that had special versions.

That is true, however, the Focus RS, Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi Evo, and Golf-R have AWD and the Honda does not. I would have thought Honda would price the Type-R lower because it doesn't have AWD.

Keep doing what you're doing bro. I bought a lot of stuff I really didn't need over the years and I have to work (part time) until I'm 60. Just another 4 1/2 years, though.
