if I want to drop the pan and drain my tranny to change out the old fluid, how many quarts do I need? and what is the suggested brand/type of new fluid to use? thanks

but is the castrol vi or maxlifevi ok to use instead og oem and not sure about quarts...it says 7 qts service fill or 13 qts for a complete drain ? what would dropping the pan be ???

7 Quarts. Syphoning the fluid out will make dropping the pan easier and less of a mess.

Dropping the pan will yield about 5 qts, dropping the filter will dump an additional 2-2.5 qts. Maxlife is fine in these transmissions.
Have you done one of these before? Its an easy unit to do a line off exchange on, a lot cleaner too.

If your transmission doesn't have a drain plug, consider getting an aftermarket pan that does. It will make future ATF changes easy
