I assume, yes I know, the 2.5L ford motor has a block coolant drain. Can someone tell me where it is located. I've searched the manual without success and looking for it is like the proverbial needle.

look for a random bolt head midway down the block, front or back.

When its time to "change" my coolant, I do a simple radiator drain & fill each oil change for 2-3 changes. Similar to the transmission fluid DIY service schedule for autos.
