Crankshafts great and small

I've had lots of experience moving big cranks like that around. A couple of favorites were two hospitals in NYC. St Lukes in Harlem had a Cat D399 in the basement. Needed a major overhaul. We tilted the block, removed the crank, bolted these caster fixtures we built to the ends and wheeled it out to my truck where I delivered it to a crank shop that used to be in the Bronx. A D399 is a 16 cylinder engine with 6.25" bores. Crankshaft was plenty big.
The other favorite was Sloan Kettering. Two D399's on the sixth floor. NO freight elevator. We had them lock out an elevator on the seventh floor and we chainfalled the crank vertically down to the ground. That was scary.
I miss working on gigantic stuff.
