I thought it was mainly the 1998-2003 models. Mine is an 07, so I'm curious as to wonder if it will have a problem eventually and what can be done to mitigate the problem.

Only issue with your 3rd generation is Rust around the rear wheel wells and tailgate.

We don't have rust issues in Houston. Not even a spec of rust on my rear differential. I suppose you're talking about the bottom of the tailgate rusting? I haven't noticed any yet.
