Just wondering if oil was needed for the turbines to creates electricity OR was electricity needed to power the drills and pumps to mine crude to help get us where we are today?

I assume this is circa 1850s.

Electricity I think was first...hydro and steam

edit, I should mention that the Baghdad battery predated that too...

But all of these took lubricants. Back in the day, that was often a whale oil based product ...

Actual petroleum production did more to save the whales than any other social construct...

You can have electricity from batteries.

How did they light them?

Is a striking a flint a form of electricity or friction and heat which ignites?

I took the OP's post as for actual power applications rather than light.

In order for the chicken to have emerged, it has to be an egg containing a chicken, and therefore the egg was a "chicken egg" with that specific set of mutations, and came first.

It was LAID by a pre-chicken.

Oil would be my guess. I remember watching a documentary about Egypt and they said oil and gas would flow on top of the Nile river from time to time.

First came the Steam. Drill with steam, thread with steam, cut and press with steam, drive with steam, rail roads and ships. Electricity came after, than oil, thanks to downsizing.

Primaeval soup.
Lightening. (As in, "harness the lightening, Frankenstein!")
Amino acids
Time.
More Time.
Luck
Life (Not Time-Life)
Time
More Time
Oil

So electricity. That's the theory, anyway.
