This actually happened in my workplace, there were some serious business changes going on in the mid/late 90s, and a company was brought in to help employees manage their stresses and relationships better.

They wheeled out to one that was rife in the '90s about some amoeba that when placed in "ideal" environment, but when exposed to "stressors" lives longer...I always took from that the their "ideal" was obviously flawed, but I digress.

So she asked the room how many people had been pushed out of their comfort zone by their parents, and what they had learned and benefited from.

This guy, squeaky voice, says that yeah his Dad used to throw him and his brother in the dam to teach them to swim.

"That's great, and obviously he knew your limitations, and only went so far...what was your biggest learning outcome ?"

"How to untie myself and get out of the bag"...

She was destroyed
