This might be of some interest. Stumbled on it while looking for the ultimate online carb diagnosis guide.

The poster (an Amsoil agent) says its "from a book printed in 1916" (lubricant training section) but, irritatingly, he doesn't seem to specify the source.

Its mostly a description of then-current automotive lubrication practice rather than testing. This gets used as a counterpoint to some mild Amsoil sales pitching, but that's fairly easy to ignore, as are the copyright notices in favour of the poster, which seem unlikely to be valid, unless he's very old, or the author was a relative.
