A new 507 specified oil a friend of mine is using in his TDI VW is called PP Euro LX 0W-30. It's not easy to get but if interested the US part # is 550043041-6.
This is a GTL synthetic with an unprecedented 204 viscosity index.

Let's be fair - it's not nothing to do with the base oil used, but it certainly isn't everything to do with the base oil used either.
