Interesting. Thanks!

I was intrigued by this oil when I first saw it at Walmart, and purchased it for winter use on my '85 F-250 with gas 460 engine. I normally use 10w-30 HDEO in winter for better cold start properties, but I was lured in by the semi-synthetic claim of the Maxlife 15w-40, thinking it would be somewhat comparable for cold temp viscosity.

For grins, I did the freezer test by putting a bottle each of Maxlife 15w-40 (HDEO), Maxlife 20w-50 (PCMO), and Castrol Syntec 5w-50 outside in 0 degree temps overnight. There was no discernible difference between the 15w-40 and 20w-50, as far as rate of pour goes. The 5w-50 was still quite thick, but poured considerably better at 0 degrees. I conclude that my choice of Maxlife 15w-40 for a winter oil was a dismal failure. On the positive side of things, the truck seems to leak less (it has a leaking rear main seal) than it did before.

Looks like a robust oil, but I'd be wary using it in winter for a gasoline engine. Next winter, I'll go back to using Chevron Delo XLE 10w-30.
