I know most people here, including me, is against additives, but my car makes an annoying tappet noise every time I do a cold start. The noise usually last less than a minute but it's enough to annoy me. These old Zetec engines always had noisy lifters, but even so I would like to make my engine to be a little less noisy. Has anyone used this Tappet Stop Noise to share any thought?

Thanks

Yes, I've had good experiences with Hydraulic Lifter Additive. If the lifters are dirty, it'll clean them right out. If they're damage, you will need to replace them.

Just before oil change...add 1-2dcl of diesel fuel into oil...go on some short trip...and change your oil...and your engine will be clean from inside

Is the filter draining out and allowing the lifters to de-pressurise? If not, cleaning may help but if it doesn't you need new lifters. Not a tough job though, a couple of hours and less than 50 notes depending on where you get the parts..

Tappets used to be shimmed, and they always made noise. Hydro tappers come in and they're super quiet but as soon as they start to make noise people freak out - its as though people forget the big metallic machine with all those moving parts and just want silent drive.
Maybe electric vehicles will be popular in the future?

I would try the following:
1/ Liqui Moly or Amsoil idle only flush additive just before an oil & filter job.
2/ OEM oil filter and a major brand full synthetic that is as thick as the owners manual approves.
In winter try and use an 0 oe 5w30, rather than a thicker 15w40.
3/ Try a can of Liqui Moly Ceratec, if it's cheaper than the Lifter additive.
4/ Keeping the OCI fairly short does help keep the viscosity high.

How many Km on the Escort?

With Sao Paolo's high/low temperatures, I would definitely recommend HDEO 15W40, but I'm a fan and have been using in my old engines for many years. Miami's temps are similar to Sao Paolo's

LM advised me their Ceretec is better suited for newer engines, and recommended their MoS2 for older engines.

Hello,
This is based on my experience and a lot reading. My profession has nothing todo with Cars, i m a BMW enthusiast.

LM Oil Flush with the old oil - Let it idle for 10-15 minutes

With the engine hot, take out your old oil - Let it drop all out for 5 m leave it be (don't get burn use gloves)

Put a NEW OEM Oil Filter

LM Oil + LM Ceratec - Turn on the car and Let it idle for 10 m (don't touch Ceratec < 0.5 µm particle size will pass trough your skin - not good)

Get a LM Injector/Combustion Chamber cleaner
When replacing the Gaz filter, soak it with it and put the rest on your Gaz tank - Easy way to do it

Your engine will behave completely and positively Diferente

Ceratec will last for 2/3 oil changes (My revisions are in 20k /Kms)
1 time LM Ceratec
2 time LM MoS2
3 time LM MoS2
4 time LM Ceratec
.... and repeat

Ceratec will last between oil changes for 50,000 km
LM has been upgrading their old Products and makings new. They Upgraded Ceratec and Motor Protect

You guys seem to have a Huge variety of additives in USA, i never ear before.
We don't and have so many brands in Europe shops.

Technical doc : Ceratec

Boa sorte !

Can you get BG products down there? BG109 will do it in one oil change usually. Older motor, one can in with a fresh oil change and by a week or so, no more lifter noise.

But, you gotta use a good filter with a known good anti-drain-back valve. Silicone rubber is best like WIX, Baldwin, etc. Have to look at filter build specs to pick the right ones ...

I dont know if it was a question to me... But

BG products
Nop we cant buy here, we have to import BG109, but i m happy with LM, Ceratec works

Filters
Oil and Diesel
I usually use KNECHT/MAHLE that are the same Company. Its made in Germany and they are OEM.
For the Breader i use MEYLE Kit with new Seals.

Some lifters/lash adjuster (for simplification the word lifter is used) are more prone to leaking down overnight than others. If it goes away after a min or so I wouldn't worry about it a bit.
VW states that its totally normal for some of their engines to have lifter noise for a min or so, the point is a truly stuck or collapsed lifter will make noise all the time so it might jut be a little sticking or normal wear of the lifters internal bore.

A defective ADBV could also cause this. You could try an idle flush with Chemtool for 15 min and a fresh oil change with a new filter but if that doesn't work, either replace them or live with it.
