low-temperature oil gelling reversible?

Synthetic oils stored at low temperature for a length of time tend to gel somewhat. They gel less than classic oil where parafin precepitates but still gel somewhat.

Is this process reversible? Do synthetic oils recover 100% once brought back to a reasonable temperature?
 
It should be 100% reversible.

There are no changes to the oil chemical structure when it is cooled.

At higher temperatures there will be enough molecular kinetic energy to overcome inter-molecular attraction that causes the precipitation and gelling.
 
ok thanks. So is there anything that can cause synthetic oil to degrade when stored in sealed unopened original container?

Its good for as long as its usable by current engine specifications. After that it goes to the Dollar Store to be bought by people who don't read labels.
 
Per another thread, you can't make it recover by shaking it.

In labs, they heat to 90C to erase the "memory" effect of cold temperature gelling.

Your engine will do it, but if you need say a 0W, your oil might not be a 0W until it's had a full heat cycle, so don't tip it in and drive at -40C.

How did we ever achieve 200K plus miles on API-SF. I cant get a new engine to go over 60K on current low/mid saps, hydroisomerised slime tech. That includes my wife's conservatively driven cars too!
