I don't like to idle my cars but it was necessary today .
I did a drain and fill on the '13 Corolla 4Speed tranny and had to get it up to temp for the level check.
So I hooked up my Techstream software and monitored the Trans fliud temp up to 162F which is in the middle of the operating temp range of 158-176 for the Trans.
But what I noticed on the coolant and oil temps was interesting. The coolant was at 205F and engine oil at 225F.
Question: Are those coolant and engine oil temps abnormal for idle of 20-25 minutes at 70F ambient air? Furthermore the cooling fan hadn't yet kicked on. Shouldn't it have kicked on by then?
(The cooling fan does work, I tested it by turning the A/C on and the fan brought the coolant down to 196F)
