this castrol has only Ford approval. But basically Ford specs are based on API/ILSAC or ACEA specs plus some in-house tests or more severe limits of API/ACEA tests. You know Castrol has strategic partnership with Ford and I think this is Castrol decision to show only Ford 948-B on this oil. No API,ILSAC or ACEA. Special oil for special Ford cars. http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericarticle.do?categoryId=9037043&contentId=7072582
Half year ago Total introduced new oil with Ford WSS 948-B http://www.finol.ie/uploads/downloads/Quartz-9000-Future-EcoB-5W-20-Ford-Engine-Oil.pdf
This oil is API SN and ACEA A1/B1

In Europe, Castrol and other brands seem to have versions of oils by manufacturer now.

More and more 30 weights, fuel economy oils. And price differences between the same oil in the same weight for different manufacturers.

Particularly confusing is that Magnatec is mostly a semi syn oil slotted below Edge but sometimes it is full syn.

Its interesting that Mobil in Europe doesn't seem to offer so many variants.

On the one hand there are oils that meet multiple specs, just like the Dex VI ATFs claim to do. On the other hand, there are brands that put out multiple oils each meeting individual manufacturer specs.

I wonder if there are truly technical advantages in the Castrol type approach or whether an oil meeting multiple specs is inherently better.

And of course, what works better from a marketing perspective?

Mobil have them...take 5W-30, in Oz there are many many of them...

Not quite the same. Castrol UK lists versions of 5w30 specifically for Fords, Renaults, VW, Hondas and also multi spec versions.

Is this oil YELLOW? I just got a Focus 1.0 and the oil is bright yellow. Very interesting. Never seen anything like it before.

But I don't even know what kind of oil my factory fill is. Maybe it's not this stuff?

Here's a not-so-great photo, but it gives you the idea.
