I recently acquired a pre-owned 2013 Volvo S80 with a 3.2L I6 engine. The Owners Manual calls for a synthetic oil that meets A5/B5 and suggests an OCI of 10k miles.
However, the same engine equipped on a 2012 model would call for a conventional oil that meets GF-4, API SL, or ACEA A1/B1 and suggests an OCI of 7.5k miles.
I have no problem putting in a synthetic oil in the S80 but just wonder, based on the fact that they're equipped with the same engine, whether a conventional can be used in a 2013 model with an OCI of 7.5k miles? I have some left over conventional oil from my previous vehicle and may want to use it up before touching my synthetic stash.
I typically don't do long OCIs and intend to do 5k for conventional and 7.5k for synthetic.
