Um, but 95% (more?) of those are accidents and not INTENDED use of cars. Gun deaths are probably 95% (even more?) INTENTIONAL, and the GOAL is TO HARM and/or KILL.

Compare the INTENDED USE to harm and kill by cars and by guns. You serious ??
WHEN will this idiotic ban cars analogy end? 100% non applicable.

I'm not sure what you are implying? Sure its a dumb analagy, but so is the arguments of the gun banners. Lacking facts and reason does not a good policy make.

Banning guns would make us aeons less safe.

No i am not saying BAN GUNS BAN GUNS.(or things that look guns)
(gun control in a meaningful manner, but that's another topic).

I just can't agree with the silly and idiotic but often repeated bitog generic "accidental automobile deaths and death by intentional shootings is exactly the same, so let's ban cars" Khrrap.

How? Aren't they union?

Union or not, its just a job.

Their long-time guys are union, but they've been slowly replacing them with part-timers as the union guys retire. They're busier & charging more than ever for shipping, can't figure out why they're so bad...

No need to shoot up the place.

This. My wife is a hiring (and firing) district manager for her company. Unfortunately, this thought crosses my mind every single day. Some people lose their mind when they are let go. She has had to call the police on several fired employees to safely escort them off the property.

This happened at a previous job of mine. One of the employees was let go from the front office, but he parked out back. They never thought to escort him out. He did a lot of damage on his way out!

Every employee is a union member. Even the seasonal employees are required to join the union. And with a few exceptions, every single UPS employee starts out as part time.

How do I know? I work there.

Use horses. ( I left this out earlier}
You could use the exhaust emissions for fertilizer.

What option is that?

They work the pants off of UPS drivers. Basically do WAY more, with less. My UPS driver SPRINTS from the street to my house, throws my package at the front door, and then sprints back to the truck. Starts the truck and races away. From what I understand they are under enormous pressure to get per package delivery times down.

For the same reason that ebola makes much better headlines than the flu or starvation....

I'm a full time journeyman diesel semi mechanic at UPS. The founder of UPS encouraged/wanted his employees to become Teamsters. Part time employees have existed at UPS before most of us were born. Mainly due to the nature of needing people at peak times due to when parcels arrive from the shipper typically in the evening... . Most jobs at UPS require you to perform hard regardless of the position or pay. UPS has ways to get rid of lousy workers if they want to even through we are union. I made $66K last year. I do twice the work at UPS compared to my last job.

They PUSH their employees hard and if you don't meet numbers they get rid of you. A person in the package handler position has to load and sort a package into the right truck in about 3 seconds time..

How do I know? I never worked there, but I did go to an open interview there over the summer.. that is all from the interview that they told me. I don't remember the pay very well, but I think it was about $10 to $13 an hour. Anyway, when the interviewer got up to leave the room to get something, I got up, and walked out. There was no way I was going to kill myself over that little of pay!

Your first sentence is true (sort of) for package delivery drivers when they first start out. You have 30 days to qualify. UPS has what they call an over/under time based on the amount of stops for a particular route. On a normal day, on a normal route, you'll have on average about 220 stops give or take. Not packages mind you, but actual stops on your route. They calculate how long that particular route should take you based on the amount of stops for the day on that route. If they calculate that the route should take you 10 hours to complete, then you should be able to do it in 10 hours or less. If you are trying to qualify, you are allowed to go over the estimated route time. But as long as you are showing improvement, you'll qualify. If you don't qualify, they don't get rid of you in the sense that you're fired, you just go back to doing your old job at UPS until you are able to to try out as a driver again.

Package delivery sounds easy until you actually do it. It is physically one of the hardest jobs you will ever do.

As for what you said about package handlers, that's nonsense. I don't know why they would tell you that unless they were just trying to scare you.

I think its $11.50 an hour now for a part time package handlers, but if I remember right, you get a raise after your first 2 months and then another at 6 months. After that you get a yearly raise. Starting pay for a delivery driver is $18.75 an hour.

I know that yours is a statement about media coverage of deaths related to firearms use, but you're kidding right?

Of those 2,700, how many DO NOT result in headlines at the local news level? Probably very few.
