In So. Cal. the market is a funny thing.
Toyota Camrys go for a price far above their higher optioned badge sisters such as the Avalon and ES300.

So you can get Avalons and ES300s cheap, while plain Camrys still command a premium!
 
I don't know much about the ES models, very different vehicle to the ones I have. However, my SC and GS have been exceptional cars. Albeit the 2JZ inline 6 is a very different beast to the 2MZ-FE in the ES.

You mean the 1MZ-FE in the ES.

Not so odd...
economical Camry...
I4 vs V6 = better mpg
regular gas vs premium
typically cheaper parts
typically cheaper labor costs
manual tranny avail vs AT only on older models
