I've been doing maintenance on a buddys '07 explorer with the v6. I went to check the radiator and it had a lot of pressure after loosening the cap. This was after it sat overnight. I changed to coolant so I've been trying to purge the air, but it won't draw from the expansion tank.

Sound like a new cap is in order? Why wouldn't the pressure equalize overnight?

Make sure the air is purged from the cooling system before you suspect somethings wrong with the Rad Cap. Try jacking up the front end and running it with the cap off.

FYI: On a cold motor the Rad should be full and the expansion tank should be at the Cold mark. When the motor gets up to temperature the expansion tank should read Hot. When you shut the motor off the Rad should draw coolant from the expansion tank
until it fills up and the expansion tank should read Cold again.

This will only happen when the cap is not plugged
