There is no 5w20 or 0w20 grade mentioned. I just bought
a 2014 GMC Terrain with the 2.4 Ecotec engine. The oil grade
is 5w30. If used in extreme cold of -25 C then a 0w30 can be
used. I would not be using a 0/5w20 oil.

I do this for a living. Spec is 0/5w20

#13-00-90-002: Information for Vehicles Factory Filled With dexos1 5W-20 Oil Are Approved to Substitute dexos1 0W-20 Oil as Optional Top Off and Service Fill - (Dec 13, 2013)

The above listed Model Year vehicles, equipped with the specified engine RPO codes were factory filled with dexos1™ 5W-20 oil and the engines were fitted with engine oil fill caps that say: SAE 5W-20 dexos. My 2014 GMC Terrain with the 2.4 (LEA) is still 5w30. So the 1.2 and the new 2.5 ecotec
has 0/5w20 recommended. You stated that you do this for a living, are you a GM Tech ?

Yes, I am. The 2.4 is a completely different engine than the 2.5

Aussiek2000. What can you tell me about these new D.I engines. I'm concerned
about the intake valves and keeping them clean.

We haven't seen a problem related to "dirty valves" on any DI engine. The only thing that is going to build up potentially is oil from the PCV system. This can be alleviated by running a catch can like I do on my LS powered car.

Aussiek2000. What is a catch can? Is this an item installed by GM dealer and under Warranty? My Terrain is new, only 750 km.
