Here's my 1969 Sony Trinitron model KV-1210U CRT TV. It was one of Sony's first ever Trinitron sets they made. I found this in my local Kijiji Toronto classifieds for $30.00 February 2014. It still works and looks like new ! The picture quality is simply amazing !
Made in Japan.
MSRP was $319.95 in 1969

A set that old with a picture so good leads me to think that it was stored under ideal conditions with little or no use for a long time. I had a 19" 1990 Sony that I kept until 2010 and saw heavy daily use. For the last 4-5 years the color went bad but I lived with it until I could replace it. Also had a 27 " '03 Sony that lasted 7 years until it just went > and wouldn't turn on any more. Figured it wasn't worth fixing. Replaced both with 2010 Samsung LCDs ...have been satisfied with both so far.

Hello, In 1973 I had a chemistry professor who went off on a tangent regarding nitrogen compounds and the SONY "try-ny'-tron" picture tubes came up. I remember him going on about them.

Magnavox had held the lead regarding picture/color quality. SONY took that accolade for a long time.

Our current set, a Toshiba flat fronted tube, was claimed to be king at the time (10-14 years ago) and still has a smashing great picture.
We're going to keep using that set even after the general population has receivers implanted into their mastoid bones.
Don't need all the gadgets the auto industry dreams up-don't need 'em in our living room either.
We like getting our money's worth out of things.

Besides seeing perfectly good CRT-TV sets sitting out on collection day, we've begun to see flat screens out there too. Kira

Isn't that cool?! Every Sony product we have has lasted for years, decades more like it...Watching the news on a 27" flat tube Trinitron now, picture is awesome. We've had it since around 1995 or so. Constant daily use, it's amazing.
My old 1986 single disc Sony CD player, our 3 floppy disc Mavica cameras, our 3" CD Mavica camera, all used weekly and work flawlessly. They cost more but they (Sony) last forever.

Good Stuff!

Our 32" Sony Wega bought in 2001 was $800+ but lasted over ten years before we replaced it, and it went through [censored]. Four toddlers (one tried to clean it with WAAAY too much Windex), hours of use a day; being dropped while moving, etc.

Picture quality was [censored] in 2012 but it did it's job beautifully under the circumstances.

Talking about CRT, they last a long time.

I am still using a Samsung SyncMaster 19" CRT I bought in 2001, other than some minor color distortion at one corner, it is still working today as my primary monitor.

My folks have a Panasonic 27" (semi flat) CRT set from 1995 that still has a very good picture and has been daily used the entire time they have owned it. Even the original remote works perfectly. LOL

I forgot what they called the semi flat tube they did have a name for it back then. The first Panasonic CRT based wide screen HD sets also had fantastic pictures as well. They were called the Tau series and came out in the early 2000s. 30 in was the typical size, and personally I find the CRT HD picture better than most LCD LED sets and it matches the Plasma sets, which I think are the best technology today.

That TV looks a *Lot* like the one we gave to my grandparents about 1969 or 1970(Actually a joint gift from their kids families- my Mom, her brother & sister). It was a Sony Trinitron, about 15"? 17"? screen, even had the same tips on the rabbit ears. Mom distracted Grandpa & Mamaw in the big front room while Dad & I snuck it in from the carport, through the kitchen & set it up where their old dead TV was. We got it all hooked up & tuned in to one of the Little Rock stations, & when the grandparents came back in they had a fit. Their first color TV ever, it had a great picture but only lasted about 3 yrs before it died. Was gonna be so expensive to fix that it was replaced with a less expensive brand. Still, they sure enjoyed it!

Congrats on a great find, & thanks for bringing back a very good memory.

My parents still have a Sharp CRT TV from 2001. 27'' ... it was HUGE at the time. They use it every day.

Original remote works, but all of the buttons are worn pretty good. The buttons on the fromt dont even work any more.

Trying to get them to get a new one. Thing uses a ton of electricity.

Late 80's till 2004 crt tv's are virtually worthless.
The ones in demand are the space age looking color sets.

They've changed the phosphors slightly as time has gone on. That TV, if not "used up", should have an irreplaceable picture.
